Midwifery Services

Community Midwife

Carolyn Pinnock is our Community Midwife and she oversees the routine antenatal care for patients throughout their pregnancy and for a short time after the birth.

Antenatal clinics are held at Seaton every Tuesday morning.  Please telephone the surgery to arrange an appointment.  If you are unable to get to Seaton please let the midwife know and she will arrange to see you at Colyton Health Centre.  Non urgent messages can be left for the midwife at the surgery.

Timeline for Care in Pregnancy

All patients are encouraged to book a consultation with their GP to confirm pregnancy.  The GP will recommend folic acid 400mcg daily until 12 weeks, and provide dietary advice.

The GP will refer the patient to the midwife who will contact the patient to arrange a booking appointment at home or in the surgery.  This will take place at around 8 or 9 weeks.

The first scan and blood tests will take place at the RD&E (Wonford) between 12 and 13 weeks.  It is possible that the patient will be looked after on a shared care basis between the hospital and the community midwife.
