The Practice Nurses
The nursing team is made up of healthcare assistants and practice nurses led by our advanced nurse practitioner Helen Polley. Between them they are able to provide all the following services, these include blood tests, blood pressure checks, new patient checks, wound dressings, removal of stitches, ear syringing, travel advice and vaccinations and childhood immunisations. They also take blood samples from patients taking Warfarin medication and adjust the medication regime accordingly. The nurses can also offer advice and counselling to help patients who wish to stop smoking.
Patients with diabetes, asthma, COPD, coronary heart disease or stroke patients will be invited to attend annual reviews at nurse led clinics.
We strongly encourage you to attend these reviews to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Breast & Cervical Screening
Women aged between 25 and 64 years of age will be invited by letter to attend for routine cervical screening with the practice nurse. This is an important screening programme and patients are encouraged to attend.
Likewise breast screening is offered to women aged between 50 and 70 years of age and you will be called by letter when the mobile unit is in the area every three years. However, if you believe that you have any cause for concern please do not wait to be called for a routine screening but contact the surgery to make an appointment with your GP.
HRT, Contraception and Gynaecological Problems
The nurses can also offer advice on HRT, the menopause, contraception, family planning and gynaecological problems. They can also provide emergency contraception services. However, advances in contraception methods mean there are now more choices available; for example, an implant is a long acting and reversible contraceptive for women. It is a small flexible rod that is inserted, under local anaesthetic, into the inside of the upper arm. It is quick to insert and provides 100% contraceptive protection for three years. If you would like more information please speak to Dr Greaves.

Children & Young People
We offer a full immunisation programme for children. If you think your child may have missed any vaccinations please let us know. Likewise, if you have any concerns or doubts about the immunisation programme offered to children please talk to your GP or to the health visitors.
All our young patients, particularly teenagers, are encouraged to discuss health issues with our practice nurses. Please make an appointment in the normal way. You do not need to say why you want the appointment and the discussion will be completely confidential.
Minor surgical procedures such as the removal of warts and cysts can be carried out either at the surgery or at Seaton Hospital. If you feel that you have a condition that requires this type of procedure please telephone the surgery for advice or to make an appointment.
