The Practice Nurses

The nursing team is made up of healthcare assistants and practice nurses led by our advanced nurse practitioner Helen Polley.  Between them they are able to provide all the following services,  these include blood tests, blood pressure checks, new patient checks, wound dressings, removal of stitches, ear syringing, travel advice and vaccinations and childhood immunisations.  They also take blood samples from patients taking Warfarin medication and adjust the medication regime accordingly.  The nurses can also offer advice and counselling to help patients who wish to stop smoking.

Breast & Cervical Screening

Women aged between 25 and 64 years of age will be invited by letter to attend for routine cervical screening with the practice nurse.  This is an important screening programme and patients are encouraged to attend.

Likewise breast screening is offered to women aged between 50 and 70 years of age and you will be called by letter when the mobile unit is in the area every three years.  However, if you believe that you have any cause for concern please do not wait to be called for a routine screening but contact the surgery to make an appointment with your GP.

Children & Young People

We offer a full immunisation programme for children.  If you think your child may have missed any vaccinations please let us know.  Likewise, if you have any concerns or doubts about the immunisation programme offered to children please talk to your GP or to the health visitors.

All our young patients, particularly teenagers, are encouraged to discuss health issues with our practice nurses.  Please make an appointment in the normal way.  You do not need to say why you want the appointment and the discussion will be completely confidential.
